Who We Are

Who We Are

A Church Planted by God's Providence. Sustained by His Grace. Sent for His Glory.

We believe God plants His churches with purpose. And for more than six decades, we have had the privilege of seeing His faithfulness on display right here in Dallas, North Carolina. Walnut Grove Baptist Church is more than a building, a gathering, or a name along Dallas Cherryville Highway.
We are a local body of believers, redeemed by the grace of God through Jesus Christ, united by His Word, and called to make His glory known. Our story is one of God's faithfulness. But the most exciting part of our story isn't simply what God has done in the past. It's what He is continuing to do today.

Our Story: A Testimony Of God's Faithfulness

In 1958, a small group of believers began gathering for worship in a home off Puetts Chapel Road in Dallas, North Carolina. What began as a simple gathering of Christians would, by God's gracious providence, become Walnut Grove Baptist Church. As the Lord worked among this growing congregation, He provided opportunities for the church to establish a permanent home. In late 1958, property was given along Dallas Cherryville Highway, and in 1959, the congregation built its first sanctuary.

What started in a home became a place where generations would gather to hear God's Word proclaimed, worship the Lord Jesus Christ, grow in their faith, and carry the Gospel into their community. And God continued to provide. In 1989, construction began on a new sanctuary, and in 1990, the congregation gathered for its first worship service in that building. Not long afterward, the Lord provided a Family Life Center, creating additional space for ministry, fellowship, and discipleship.

Through changing seasons, growing ministries, and generations of faithful believers, one thing has remained constant: God has been faithful to His church.
We look back with gratitude, recognizing that every blessing, every opportunity, and every season of growth has come from His gracious hand. But we also recognize something even greater. The same God who was faithful to that small gathering of believers in 1958 is the God who continues to build His church today. And we believe our greatest calling is not to preserve a memory of what once was, but to faithfully proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the generations still to come.

Our Mission:
Why We Exist

Walnut Grove exists for the purpose of glorifying God through Scripture-saturated worship as we strive together for the growth of all believers while advancing the Gospel to the world!

Everything we do flows from this purpose. We believe the church exists first and foremost for the glory of God. We gather to worship Him, submit ourselves to the authority of His Word, encourage one another toward spiritual maturity, and carry the good news of Jesus Christ into a world that desperately needs Him. Our desire is not simply to gather a crowd, but to see lives transformed by the Gospel, believers equipped through Scripture, and disciples sent out to make Christ known.

Our Vision:
Where We Are Going

Walnut Grove is a community of believers seeking to glorify God by worshiping Jesus, growing together in His Word, and serving our neighbors, so that the hope of the Gospel reaches the ends of the world.

We believe every follower of Jesus has been called to something greater than simply attending church. We have been called to follow Christ, grow in His likeness, serve His people, and participate in His mission. That's why we want Walnut Grove to be a church where disciples are continually being made, equipped, and sent.

We gather because Jesus Christ is worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. Our worship is centered on God's Word, shaped by the truth of Scripture, and focused on the person and work of Jesus Christ.
We believe spiritual growth happens as God's people are shaped by His Word in the context of biblical community. Through expositional preaching, intentional discipleship, Bible study, and meaningful relationships, we seek to grow together into maturity in Christ.

Our Future:
The Mission Is Not Finished

We are deeply thankful for the generations who have gone before us. Their faithfulness, sacrifice, and commitment to the Lord have left a testimony worth celebrating.

But Walnut Grove's story is still being written. There are still neighbors who need to hear the Gospel. Families who need to be strengthened by God's Word. Believers who need to be discipled. Children and students who need to know Christ. Communities that need faithful Gospel witnesses. And nations where the good news of Jesus must continue to be proclaimed. We don't know everything the Lord has planned for the years ahead, but we know the mission He has entrusted to His church.

To glorify God. To make disciples. To proclaim Christ. Our prayer is that Walnut Grove would continue to be a church that treasures God's Word, loves one another deeply, and faithfully advances the Gospel for generations to come.
